When we think of a “traditional mop,” many people think about two things: a string cotton mop and a bucket. A mop and bucket are synonymous with old-school cleaning, but the use of microfiber mops has been on the rise for years now and become the new traditional mop. Cotton string mops may have their uses, but microfiber mops are now the go-to cleaning tool in many homes and businesses. Here’s why.
Cleans better
Microfiber is a synthetic material that is made up of tiny fibers that are woven together to form an effective cleaning surface. Microfiber strands are much smaller than cotton, meaning that microfiber can get into all the nooks and crannies of a floor that a cotton mop can’t.
Uses less water
Microfiber mops use less water than cotton mops to be effective, using about 20 times less liquid. Since it’s a best practice to avoid excess water when cleaning wood floors and other hard surface floors, a microfiber mop is the perfect match.
Prevents cross-contamination
The mop and bucket combination isn’t as effective at preventing the spread of germs and bacteria to floors. To prevent cross-contamination with a mop and bucket, the water should be replaced before cleaning each new room. With a microfiber mop, simply use a new cleaning pad, and you have a fresh, clean mop ready to go.
Saves money
Microfiber cleaning pads are reusable, making them earth friendly. Cotton mops are also reusable, but microfiber pads have a longer life. Cotton mops can be washed about 15-30 times before needing to be replaced. Microfiber mop pads can be washed up to 500 times.
Quick and easy
Microfiber mops are easy to use because they are lighter and more agile than the mop and bucket combination. Since most microfiber mops have an attached reservoir for cleaning solutions, the extra time and strength needed to move around a mop and bucket are used for more cleaning time. Plus, there is no measuring, no mixing and no mess so you are back on your floor in less time!
